Molecular Imaging Used To Track Stem Cells In Tumors

Related Entries: Stem Cells and Cancer

Researchers at Society of Nuclear Medicine's 55th Annual Meeting, June 14-18, say that new therapies offer promise for patients

Using noninvasive molecular imaging technology, a method has been developed to track the location and activity of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in the tumors of living organisms, according to researchers at SNM's 55th Annual Meeting. This ability could lead to major advances in the use of stem cell therapies to treat cancer.

Bone Repair Using Patient's Stem Cells

Related Entries: Bone and Cartilage

Researchers at the University of Twente, The Netherlands, have just shown that if the enzyme PKA is previously activated in the stem cells in the lab, following implantation, results in substantial bone formation.

This opens up new ways of repairing bone tissue using cell material from the patient.

Enzyme induces adult stem cells to grow bone, but now it has been difficult to induce adult human stem cells to produce bone, e.g. in order to repair bone tissue.
